Be so stillyou hearthe beech leavestell storiesof their lifeclinging in death. Sometimes when I'm out for a walk on a winter's day, it's so still I can hear the snow squeak. So when there's a breeze and the beech leaves rustle, it's a rude shock. The beech trees around here keep their dead, bronzed leaves all winter. I don't know why they do that, but they're a reminder that nature is beautiful, even in death. Indeed, perhaps for nature, death is beautiful too. My 2023 Black Friday Sale...

What should I do,how shall I plan, what will I solvein my made-up life? —while you followa thistle seedon a breeze,in the sun. This is another one inspired by Rufus the puppy. There I was one day walking him, my head full of stuff - so much so that I wasn't really present. Rufus, on the other hand, is always present and a floating thistle seed caught his eye. I mentioned the other day that I lot of the pieces I'd written recently were about death. But what I forgot to mention was that contemplating mortality isn't a bad thing! Indeed, perhaps we ought to spend our lives learning how to die. To do this, we could learn from the rest of nature. It's November and death is everywhere....

REMINDER -- My 2023 Friends & Family Event is happening now! Enjoy 25% off with coupon code EARLYACCESS here. Could we live like this, our livesbound in duty and honor, freed by the chains of love? I often find the things I write sound contradictory. But in that contradiction lies truth. Is there, for example, freedom within obligation or, more importantly, the ultimate freedom when we know what's important? Is there freedom when there's only one choice - because that choice is the only right...

Sometimessome small thingsare biggerthan I can know. We tend to overlook the small things because, well, they're not big. But if you believe the small things are part of something much bigger - an integral part of the rest of the world - then it makes sense to pay attention. Perhaps we need more humility? Suddenlythere are swansby the roadsideeverywhere. Like operagoersin McDonaldsat the rest stopeating sundaes. I was looking through the work I'd created the past few weeks, wondering what to share with you today. Much of it was rather heavy. A lot of death and such. I don't feel like sending something about death today, so here's this. It's a bit different and I'm wondering what you think.A couple of weeks ago we were driving from Haliburton, where we live, to Toronto, and indeed there were a...

There are runaway trainsand I keep getting on them, leaving you at the station This is a metaphor that's been in my mind a lot recently, particularly after a busy summer. It's easy to get engrossed by projects. The projects might be valuable and interesting, but they can sometimes cause us to forget what's important, and what's truly valuable.
